Week 2 In Brief

As always the NFL threw up more than just a 500 yard game from Eli Manning but some shock scores around the league leaving all but 4 teams with a 1-1 record. Obviously I’m going to start with my Steelers getting back to winning ways against flash in the pan Mark Sanchez and his Jets.

Without being a brilliant game (Typical Steelers Football) and a bunch of 3 & outs in the second half surely Tebow time is just around the corner. Where does this leave Jets fans?, not knowing which Sanchez is going to turn up week after week? Some say “again” the Steelers D is too old and without Harrison and Polomalu we still only gave up 10 points which is more worrying for Jets fans on the back of Sunday night.

Big Ben showed us all again why he is not considered an elite QB but he gets the job done and I’m liking the look of Dwyer for those dirty yards. I wouldn’t worry too much if I was a jets fan, after all we’re only 2 games down and they’re sitting pretty at 1-1.

The Ravens going down to the Eagles was a bonus as Andy Reid’s men go 2-0 with a 2nd 1 point win which also made me smile. I’m not convinced the Eagles will do enough to keep Reid in a job but lady luck is certainly on their side. The Eagles D however made Flacco look human again but I’ve no doubt the Ravens will top the AFC north and give the Steelers a good kicking along the way (Twice).

We’ve already seen the good, the bad, and the ugly of Tony Romo this season which I love because I think he’s over rated anyway but what do I know about football? I thought the Cowboys would walk all over the Seahawks.

RG3 was at it again with 206 yards and 1 TD passing and 82 yards and 2 TD’s rushing yet it wasn’t enough to over come a stubborn Rams D with no other Skins player picking up more than 89 yards. It was nice to see Sam Bradford pick up over 300 yards and 3 TD’s for the Wembley bound Rams who picked up what I thought was an unlikely win.

The Cardinals turning over the Pats must be the shock of the week other than the Chargers and the Bills putting up over 30 points a piece. Go Chargers, the Bills will come back down to earth before long.

So yeah the Pats missed a game winning field goal, that’s right Stephen Gostkowski missed a 42 yard field goal, just as well I took him out of my fantasy team for David Akers. Gostkowski is the best Kicker in Patriots history but on this occasion wasn’t quite enough to pick up the W. To be fair you would have thought the Pats would have had enough Offensively to comfortably see off the Cardinals and losing Aaron Hernandez Early on didn’t help the cause of the Tight End Happy Tom Brady who still threw 316 yards. The field goal miss was reminiscent of the AFC Championship game which dearly cost the Ravens a trip to Indianapolis, I didn’t feel too sorry for the Ravens though, or the Pats on Sunday to be fair.

Pick Of The Week Steelers @ Broncos

Week one is in the bag and as always there’s plenty to discuss. If you’ve been living under a rock for the week here’s what went down, The giants went down against bitter rivals the Cowboys on Wednesday night on their own patch “OUCH”. The Result didn’t surprise me, to be fair it’s one of them games that could always go either way. What did surprise me however was the lack of atmosphere at the Metlife stadium. The Giants on the back of a Superbowl win, at home against their rivals and the crowd never really got going.

Anywho, it was a great game to kick off the new season. The Bears gave Andrew Luck a welcome to the big league with 3 picks and a fumble but that just shows theirs work to be done and it don’t matter how good your QB is you still need team mates that can catch a ball. Luck still picked up over 300 yards so it’s not all bad for you Colts fans.

Mark Sanchez shut out bench warmer Tim Tebow in the Jets opening game but again to be fair the Bills can make anyone look good and I imagine Tim will get his shot before long. Michael Vick seems determined to give Andy Reid a heart attack throwing twice as many interceptions than TD’s against the making up the numbers Cleveland Browns “Go Dream Team”, The Eagles came out on top “just” but I still think it’s funny.

RG3 showed the NFL what he’s about with 320 yards and 2 TD’s over the coach less Saints, and the rest of the news is self explanatory really, the Ravens showed us all why they are the team to watch in the AFC by dismantling the Bengals.

Right so, Steelers @ Broncos L . If you haven’t been living under a rock but instead watched this game in the comfort of your own home on a massive TV then you’ve probably had your fill of articles about Manning’s return and how Manning is bigger than the Beatles and Manning, Manning, Manning but to be fair he is pretty good.

31-19 was the final score in case it hasn’t been rubbed in your face enough and Peyton picks up his first W as a Bronco. Manning picks up all the headlines but much of this victory should go to the Broncos D. Tracy Porter was outstanding in breaking the Steelers patched up O-Line and stopping Big Ben having any joy in the red zone.

The QB numbers were almost identical 253 yards for Manning and 245 for Big Ben. The big difference was the 1 INT which gave up 6 and PAT. I will seem biased as a Steelers fan but I just don’t like how all the credit goes to Manning as the Broncos D were incredible and the Steelers D really missed James Harrison.

I never expected a result for the Steelers as I can’t remember the time we won a game that was televised on channel 4, plus Manning’s first game for over a year, the whole “cheers Tim but we don’t need you no more, thanks for getting us to the playoffs though” J .

All the NFL pundits say the Steelers D is too old now but I don’t think we have the same cutting edge plays as we did two years ago so you could argue is it the players or the defensive coordinator? Bit of both probably.

Nevertheless a good win for the Broncos and I’ll take nothing away from them but I think the result is reflected just as much as the Steelers throwing the game away as Manning winning the game. The Broncos should have a good season and make the playoffs but the Superbowl? Maybe not this season. My beloved Steelers will be there or thereabouts but I wouldn’t bet against a Hardbaugh show down in New Orleans come February 3rd. Ravens v 49ers Superbowl?

The Bulls Stampede

                                                    http://www.nfl-jerseys.co.uk
Who says us Brits can’t play football?

Granted England proved once again that we can boast “we’re the 8th best team in Europe” after another miserable European championship tournament. Not to worry I’m not here to talk football or Soccer if you’re from across the pond, I’m talking about FOOTBALL.

Again, granted the only foot that plays any part in this kind of football is after a team has slugged it out down after down for 100 yards to put up 6 points on the board, then on comes the ‘KICKER’. A toe punt from 20 yards and have a seat “I’ll have that extra point thanks”. Now I’ve said my piece for the haters and the Kicker (Don’t kid yourself, YES Your team DOES need you J ) we can get down to business.

Forget about Manchester United or City buying up the league. We got the real FOOTBALL on our door step and one of these teams is coming up to their 30th anniversary.

The Birmingham Bulls were born in 1983 (so was I). While I was rocking to Culture Club with a Bros patch on my jeans the Bulls were paving their way to the top and made their first playoffs in only their 2nd season. The Bulls didn’t stop there and developed the taste for the post season. Only missing out on an early summer holiday 3 times in 25 seasons, that‘s right 22 playoffs made out of 25.

With the Bulls passports safely locked up they have gone on to win 4 British Titles and been runners up a staggering 5 times.

Here's a look at the line up for week 1 of the new season. What's your thoughts?
openning game sees as always kicks off with the Superbowl champs, but what a game to kick it all off.

A huge NFC East battle where the Giants take on their biggest threat to the post season in the shape of the Dallas Cowboys. You could say it should be a formality for the champs but if the Giants wanted to avoid anyone on openning day it would be the Cowboys as so much is riding on getting off to a good start especially get one over on a divisonal team.

The other BIG show downs sees AFC North rivals Cincinnati Bengals face off against last season's AFC Championship runners up and possibly my tip for a Superbowl place the Baltimore Ravens. Not taking anything away from the Bengals as they finished strong last season and still managed to grab a slot in the post season but a comfortable win for the Ravens in week 1 sounds about right.

A Manningless Colts with #1 Draft pick Andrew Luck take a trip to fall away, Injury riddled Chicago in what should be one of the stand out games in week 1. The Bears have a tough D line and should put some pressure on the Colts rookie but if last season was anything to by then by the end of the season the whole world will know the name Andrew Luck. I can see one of these teams getting a real beating in week 1 as to which team? time will tell.

Peyton Manning is back and welcomes Pittsburgh to his new home in week 1 and i'm sure James Harrison and co will make him feel right at home whilst trying to settle the score following the quickest OT playoff exit in NFL history. (Stupid Tebow)

Speaking of Tebow, he has the chance to prove his worth at home against the Bills. Couldn't ask for an easier start to be fair so expect another Tebow magic show, although I feel most NFL teams will wise up and close Tebow down this time out and he will find it alot tougher.

Wembley Power

The International Series Returns in October but you already knew that so why am I telling you stuff you already know?. Looking at past Wembley games and results as I don't have a ticket or much else going on I got to thinking......

I went to the first game in 07 I think it was where the giants claimed a dull victory over the dolphins in a game where the only TD was ran in by giants two time superbowl king Eli Manning and my first reaction was to laugh. On the Back of the wembley game the giants went on to win the superbowl whilst the dolphins almost completed a perfect season of 0s but managed to pick up a win just before the regular season ended.

So the point i'm getting too is the Saints played at wembley and won the Superbowl also. The Buccs last season were doing well until they played at wembly and like the dolphins struggled for a W since. I'm a big fan of Josh Freeman and think they'll do well this season.

It seems however the winning team at wembley tends to go on to have a good season and more often than not make it to the post season and the losing team struggle to find form when they get home. So is wembley becoming a major part of the NFL calendar? still alot of teams say "wembley? no thanks, let the Rams do it" as no-one will really notice they've gone. Sorry Rams fans ;) I'm just messing.

So we are all aware that the Rams have taken up the next 3 years of international games, I like the Rams they have a cool helmet. This year we see Tom Brady and the Pats return to wembley which should be cool and maybe a win over the Rams will see Brady reach another Superbowl and choke again.

There are talks of a possible second International game heading our way with Glasgow being a prime target but my problem is, if the NFL teams aren't exactly lining up to play at wembley how do they plan to exercise two international games a season?.

Don't get me wrong as a UK fan this is great news and as glasgow if about 3 hours closer to me that's even better. NFL UK top cats are even planning on getting a franchise in London in 10 years, that makes me laugh we couldn't even hack it in NFL Europe.

Lewis will get Ravens Flying

http://www.nfl-jerseys.co.uk/baltimore-ravens.html As an avid Steelers fan it pains me to say this but....... my tip for Superbowl glory next season would be the Ravens, after giving my beloved Black & Gold warriors a royal kicking TWICE last season and made us look like litte boys I really thought the Ravens would have gone all the way.

Flacco with his mustache that makes Bret Keisel's beard look fasionable almost put me off the NFL for good but Tom Brady put a stop to them and himself was taken down by Eli and the giants which was great. Look at QBs all you like but the D puts up The W, unless your Aaron Rogers with a "we'll score more than them" attitude.

Ray Lewis is a beast, there's no other word for him. even when he was injured he lead the team from the sidelines, this is why he can take the Ravens even further this season is he stays fit.
I hope not though.

Lewis has career totals of 2,004 total tackles (1,523 solo), 18 forced fumbles, 116 passes defended, 101.5 tackles for loss, 40.5 sacks, 19 fumble recoveries, 31 interceptions for 503 yards, one safety and three touchdowns in 222 games. Lewis has been selected to thirteen NFL Pro Bowl games

They are crazy stats

Jets been Grounded?

It Seems every year I say The Jets are going to make things Happen and at the start they look a tough team, not the sort of team you would like your team to be playing. Now however you see the jets on your calendar and think of a W (unles your a browns fan)

In Week 16, he tied the NFL record with a 99-yard touchdown catch against the New York Jets. His 89 yards after the catch on the play is the most by a receiver on a 99-yard reception. In the same game he also surpassed Amani Toomer as the record holder for the most single-season receiving yards by a Giant. Cruz was named a Pro Bowl alternate for the 2011 season.

Cruz has celebrated nearly every touchdown with salsa dance. The New York Daily News even had a dance instructor write about his technique. Cruz's touchdown dance led to him receiving an offer to appear on Dancing with the Stars, which he turned down.

Steelers go old school

www.nfl-jerseys.co.uk

These aren't your father's Steelers, but they might be your grandfather's.
The throwbacks recall a design last worn during the 1934 season. Pittsburgh's team was called the Pirates back then, and that '34 team went 2-10, but they looked good interesting doing it.
"We wanted to use a jersey that we wore early in our history as we celebrate our 80th season," Steelers president Art Rooney II told the team's official website. "We have never used those jerseys since the 1934 season, and I think our fans will be excited to see our players wear them in action this year."

In Brady's ten seasons as a starter, the Patriots have earned trips to the Super Bowl in half of them (XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX, XLII, and XLVI), winning three of them (XXXVI, XXXVIII, and XXXIX). He has also won two Super Bowl MVP awards (XXXVI and XXXVIII), has been selected to seven Pro Bowls (and invited to eight, although he declined the 2006 invitation), and holds the NFL record for most touchdown passes in a single regular season. His career postseason record is 16–5. He also helped set the record for the longest consecutive win streak in NFL history with 21 straight wins over two seasons (2003–04),[1] and in 2007 he led the Patriots to the first undefeated regular season since the institution of the 16-game schedule. Brady has the fourth-highest career passer rating of all time (96.4) among quarterbacks with at least 1,500 career passing attempts.
