Week one is in the bag and as always there’s plenty to discuss. If you’ve been living under a rock for the week here’s what went down, The giants went down against bitter rivals the Cowboys on Wednesday night on their own patch “OUCH”. The Result didn’t surprise me, to be fair it’s one of them games that could always go either way. What did surprise me however was the lack of atmosphere at the Metlife stadium. The Giants on the back of a Superbowl win, at home against their rivals and the crowd never really got going.
Anywho, it was a great game to kick off the new season. The Bears gave Andrew Luck a welcome to the big league with 3 picks and a fumble but that just shows theirs work to be done and it don’t matter how good your QB is you still need team mates that can catch a ball. Luck still picked up over 300 yards so it’s not all bad for you Colts fans.
Mark Sanchez shut out bench warmer Tim Tebow in the Jets opening game but again to be fair the Bills can make anyone look good and I imagine Tim will get his shot before long. Michael Vick seems determined to give Andy Reid a heart attack throwing twice as many interceptions than TD’s against the making up the numbers Cleveland Browns “Go Dream Team”, The Eagles came out on top “just” but I still think it’s funny.
RG3 showed the NFL what he’s about with 320 yards and 2 TD’s over the coach less Saints, and the rest of the news is self explanatory really, the Ravens showed us all why they are the team to watch in the AFC by dismantling the Bengals.
Right so, Steelers @ Broncos L
. If you haven’t been living under a rock but instead watched this game in the comfort of your own home on a massive TV then you’ve probably had your fill of articles about Manning’s return and how Manning is bigger than the Beatles and Manning, Manning, Manning but to be fair he is pretty good.
31-19 was the final score in case it hasn’t been rubbed in your face enough and Peyton picks up his first W as a Bronco. Manning picks up all the headlines but much of this victory should go to the Broncos D. Tracy Porter was outstanding in breaking the Steelers patched up O-Line and stopping Big Ben having any joy in the red zone.
The QB numbers were almost identical 253 yards for Manning and 245 for Big Ben. The big difference was the 1 INT which gave up 6 and PAT. I will seem biased as a Steelers fan but I just don’t like how all the credit goes to Manning as the Broncos D were incredible and the Steelers D really missed James Harrison.
I never expected a result for the Steelers as I can’t remember the time we won a game that was televised on channel 4, plus Manning’s first game for over a year, the whole “cheers Tim but we don’t need you no more, thanks for getting us to the playoffs though” J
.
All the NFL pundits say the Steelers D is too old now but I don’t think we have the same cutting edge plays as we did two years ago so you could argue is it the players or the defensive coordinator? Bit of both probably.
Nevertheless a good win for the Broncos and I’ll take nothing away from them but I think the result is reflected just as much as the Steelers throwing the game away as Manning winning the game. The Broncos should have a good season and make the playoffs but the Superbowl? Maybe not this season. My beloved Steelers will be there or thereabouts but I wouldn’t bet against a Hardbaugh show down in New Orleans come February 3rd. Ravens v 49ers Superbowl?
